Ants are looking for food to bring back to the nest. They do so by exploring the world and leaving pheromones on their way. When they find food, they try to reach the nest back by following the pheromone gradient, going down the gradient, and leaving another pheromone on their way. Pheromones evaporate, ants need food to survive, and nests need food to generate new ants. Each colony uses its own pheromones.
